After updating to Snort 2.8.6 v 1.31, I cannot update snort rules.

      It says,

Error with the snort rules download…
      Snort rules file downloaded failed...

Should I opt for manual update?

      Please guide me.

      2.0.2-RELEASE (amd64)  &  2.2.2-RELEASE (amd64)

Did you try and do a reinstall of the package? If not, check save your setting after a deinstall under the global options of the SNORT package and reinstall the package and then try to get the updates.

          Hi,

On august 9 (the day I updated to v1.31), i went for manual update to start the snort package.
Yesterday, for some time I was getting same error. But in the afternoon, I am getting message like we have to wait for 15 minutes and try again.
But today when I tried, got new updates in first attempt only.
          ;D

          Thanks Darklogic.

I'm having a similar problem. I just updated to the most recent package, and snort won't download the rules. It says it's downloading them, but it only takes about 2 seconds… and only downloads the voip rules (those are the only rules showing up). Any thoughts?

I got it… in my case, after upgrading, the "Install basic or premium rules" radio box became unselected. Either that, or in a previous version it just didn't care whether the radio box was selected or not.

I had a similar issue - what fixed it it was Services / Snort / Global Settings / Reset button.

I had to reconfig Snort, but everything works great now.  Just fantastic; love this package.
