Netgate Hamakua nanobsd beta 4 snapshots
-
Hello,
Is there a trick to getting a Hamakua to boot from a nanobsd beta4 snapshot? I couldn't find any mention of extra work being required when I search this forum, or look at the netgate hamakua page. But I did see that Netgate has their own copies of the 1.2.3 release images on their site specifically for the Hamakua.

When I use a current nanobsd 2.0 snapshot and start up the machine, I get the normal bios output on the console, and then it is just blank. The HDD light flashes a few times and then is silent. With the image that netgate shipped with the hamakua, the nanobsd slice selection screen comes up right after the bios.
Thanks

Those Intel chipsets won't boot with the normal boot0sio, you have to put the CF into a functional system and run:
boot0cfg -v -B ad0
where ad0 is the CF. Then it'll work as normal.

Thanks cmb,
I put the CF card in a FX5620, booted it up, found the correct dev by looking for this line with dmesg,
ad2: 1918MB <sandisk …..<br="">Ran
boot0cfg -v -B ad2shutdown that system, installed card into hamakua and now it boots up just fine.
Thank you for the help.

We've seen this asked a few times lately, so I added it to the Doc wiki:

I have also tried installing the full version on a SATA hard drive from a SATA CD rom drive and had no luck. It gets to the point where it picks the kernel to boot off of and hangs.
Has anyone ever got pfsense full version installed on a hard drive for the hamakua?

That is also covered on the Doc wiki:
