Snort + 2.0 Beta 1
-
Okay, so I've spent a while on pfSense (VERY NICE!!) and there was one thing that kept getting to me.
That was the package of Snort. Now, there was only one BETA (BETA1) (this was before I knew there was BETA3 and BETA4) ( http://files.chi.pfsense.org/snapshots/FreeBSD_RELENG_8_1/i386/pfSense_HEAD/?C=M;O=D ). Now, in there I always go for LiveCD's, so there was only the BETA1 package.
Unknown that it was an older version, I tried it out. It ended up locking the util.etc file in one of the folders, and I had to re-install pfSense because of it.
Luckily, I mastered the installation and got it down to a quick 15min install. :DI am going to re-install pfSense (BETA4) tomorrow and see if that will fix my problem. I'm sure it will because I have had someone already test it for me, I just happen to get an older version of pfSense.
I am learning more and more about pfSense, and I can't get enough of it.
I have 2 houses (mom and dads…yeah, I still live with my parents) and at my dads I have 1 connection, and my moms I have 2 connections. At my moms, I'm going to try and build a network using 2 DHCP renew/release. Not sure it will work, but hey...it's learning right ;DI already understand the openVPN, NTD, and next I will tackle the Captive Portal (this one kind of scares me).
Watch my post, pfSense is my new hobby! Also, sorry about the random post...I get off-topic.
(Also, I'm only 18...I've got MUCH to learn! I'm going to teach my little brother how to do this, so maybe it will spark an interest in him.) -
Okay, after installing 2.0 BETA4, everything turned out great (just figured I should say something).
Hopefully this will save some people some headache. -
Just installed it yesterday trying it out for the local lan only to block p2p especially bittorent. Works REALLY nice. Great and easy interface! Thanks for this awesome work!
