So everytime I edit the cache management page on squid it doesn't save… I tried squid3 and squid2... same thing.

      http://www.mail-archive.com/support@pfsense.com/msg18587.html

I saw this, and I don't know if I am editing the right squid file? I think I am it regens after I hit save.

      I edited /usr/local/etc/squid/squid.conf

Also on the icsi netalyzr it says:

There is no suggestion that a transparent HTTP cache exists in your network.

However it does say there is a header-based http proxy detection.

I remember this bug, I had too download the config file with out package info . then upload it again.
Sometimes that doesn't work so I would download the config file with package info and open it with word and manually remove any lines pertaining to squid . Then upload the config again.

In the pfSense package version of Squid, squid.conf is written at startup from squid.inc, which is located here /usr/local/pkg/squid.inc  Inside the file you will find the squid.conf section.  If you want to manually edit the conf file, this is the place to do it.  I think the package GUI might also make changes and reload from squid.inc - another reason why you might have only been seeing your manual edits for a short time, if at all.

Squid2 has been known to be working for quite some time - there are a lot of users using it in production.  Keep posting if you are still having problems.

I don't know how it's remembering(it remembers my old configuration)… I uninstalled it and the squid.inc files are all gone, and then I deleted the squid.conf as well...
I also deleted the squid cache, and logs...

I am having this same issue. None of my cache settings save. I've reinstalled a number of times, reinstalled squid a number of times, at my wits end now. Edited the squid.conf and the other squid file I found off these forums.

Everything else works great. Other squid settings like ACLs, ports, etc take just fine. I'm unable to change any memory or cache size settings.

Download a backup of your config, there is probably a blank <config>tag under the squid cache settings, delete that, and it should start working.

Incidentally, you probably have a set of settings under the same area for each time you've' pressed "save" and should probably just delete the whole <squidcache>tag.</squidcache></config>
