RRD Graphs

Internet has not been 100% loss but my graphs for the past day show it at 100% loss. Not sure what is causing this.
-
Did some research and saw that snort can cause this so snort has been disabled, same issue. My gateway is responding to pings.
-
This is happening because whatever the interface is using as its monitor IP (typically the upstream gateway IP) isn't replying to ping or the ping reply isn't making it back to your pfSense box. Check this and consider using a different monitor IP if that's the issue.

not sure whats wrong as I ping it fine from both pf and a pc on my lan

quite possibly apinger.conf is incorrect. Check /var/etc/apinger.conf to see if it has the correct details.
I know there was a problem previously with apinger.conf not been updated and apinger not running. -
its empty.
also I noticed that at around 12/1 A the Internet goes down until I either: A unplug and replug the Ethernet cable for WAN or B do a release/renew for the WAN IP.

sorry forgot to ask version - i just assumed 2.0. In 1.2.3 it is empty. 1.2.3 uses /usr/local/bin/ping_hosts.sh to update the RRD file.
Sounds like you have a problem upstream. When it happens try do some trouble shooting from the pfSense box, pinging your gw etc.

Well wagonza you got me thinking so I did a search in the pf docs and came across this:
http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Using_an_alternate_monitor_IP_for_quality_graphsI followed the instructions and it seems to be working, though that file is still empty, just saw your post and see it is supposed to be empty.

Ahh nice one - actually didn't know about that option and doc either.
Thanks for the tip.
