      Hi folks,

      i am trying to SSH into my pfsense box and I keep getting "to many wrong password attempts for root"ย  How do i clear that error?

        Are you sure you are really connecting to your pfSense box when you get that error?

        Sure that the ssh port isn't forwarded elsewhere?

        You should only get that error if you are using the wrong password too many times in a row. The root account password is the same as the admin password in the GUI.

          yup, i change the user anem and pws via GUI but when i try to ssh into it i keep getting
          type 2 error "2 many auth failures for "id"

            If you login to the gui, do you also see the auth failures recorded in the system log?

                No I mean in the system log โ€“ Status > System Logs, are the ssh auth failures recorded there?

                  Also, what sshclient are you using ? I have noticed trouble with some clients sending unwanted characters when working on older unix-systems.

                  Running pfSense on :
                  DL380G4 with ESX Vsphere and DL360G4p bare metal
