      Hi,

I'm new in this, so excuse my ignorance if I say something stupid.

On my network I have a domain controller (WS 2008) that acts as a DHCP server. DHCP is disabled on pfSense, DNS forwarder is enabled. OpenVPN server runs on pfSense as well.

It's not a big problem, but it'll be nice to have it resolved. Since DHCP is off the machines that are connecting to pfSense are not registered with their host names thus the connected OVPN client are only able to access them through their IP's, but not the hostnames.

Will I be able to resolve this if I check "Register DHCP static mappings in DNS forwarder" in the DNS forwarder service, and assign static leases (mac's + hostnames) in the DHCP? Or this doesn't make sense since the DHCP server on pfS is off?

      Thanks.

Why not push the IP of the DC to the OpenVPN clients as the DNS server?

Never thought of this. Don't know how the DC is set up and it is beyond my control. Will check if this works.

          Thanks for the reply.

Just wanted to confirm that the suggested fix worked.

          Thanks again.
