I am trying to get a Gbit connection between all the devices connected to OPT1 and devices connected to Lan. Both OPT1 and Lan nics used in pfsense are Gbit nics. I was planning to buy DIR-655 in order to use it as an access point and use also its Gbit ethernet ports. However my pfsense is only a Pentium 3 and according to pfsense hardware requirments I wouldn't get more than 50mbs of througput.

So, do these hardware requirements apply also to traffic between Lan and OPT1 or just for the traffic leaving wan?

      Thanks

It applies to all routed traffic, so you're out of luck. Get a faster CPU or a L3 switch to handle local routing.

The stated numbers are very conservative, depending on what NICs you have and which CPU, you may be able to get a lot more than 50 Mbps. But if you expect to get much over 100 Mb, you're going to need something faster.
