Pfsense 2.0BETA - citrix xen server 5.6
-
hi all,
i'd like to run pfsense 2.0BETA as HVM guest inside the citrix xen server 5.6 - but the kernel always does panic directly on boot.
I have tried i386 and amd64 architecture - xen is running on a AMD opteron processor.
I think it is more a direkt freebsd kernel related question - but maybe someone here does already know how to run it.
best regards,
Wolfgang -
I haven't been able to get it running but if you do a google search there are solutions. Just search for freebsd 8 on xen.
-
i have also seen these build instructions - but my problem is - no time - only little freebsd experience until now (i am more the linux guy - sorry) - and no freebsd host to go through the custom kernel compile.
Does pfsense2.0BETA work with a stock freebsd kernel - no custom patches ?
Does there exist anything like a complete build script to build pfsense ?Does nobody has an ready to run image for me ? (please ;-) )

For what it's worth, I'm running a late august snapshot on a XenServer 5.6 host with no issues whatsoever (host config is Core i3, 4GB RAM, Intel DH55TC motherboard, onboard NIC plus a couple of Realtek 8139's - yeah, I know about their reputation, but it's what's readily available here in Brazil…).
It's a dual WAN setup, with an Untangle (web filtering appliance) virtual machine bridged to the LAN interface, and the whole thing works perfectly.

can you tell me the exact version you are using ?
cat /etc/plattform ….

pfSense 2.0b4, snapshot dated august 22, i386 full (ISO), "plain vanilla" - i.e., no additional packages.

I have the same issue. I think it has to do with a bug when host has an AMD processor. From what I can gather everyone on Intel machines have no problem.

this sounds like xen breakage. i have pfsense and freebsd8.1 servers running on amd opteron host using virtualbox with no problems. what is the panic message?
