Intel 82574L + GA-K8N51GMF-9 problem.
-
As the topic says, I can't get PCIe 82574L NIC to work on this MB:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1939&dl=1#spI have tried this NIC+MOBO combo with pfSense ver. 1.2.3 / 2.0 BETAS (both x64 and x86 ones). In plain FreeBSD 7.3
I flashed latest BIOS wich is F8. No luck. The problem is that the em driver recognizes the NIC just fine. It just doesn't work. It shows that the link is UP but doesn't ping, or allow any traffic.
It just shows watchdog resseting error all the time, The onboard NIC works fine, as well as some older Intel NICs.This Intel 82574L runs fine in windows 2003/xp on this board. And this NIC works in FreeBSD/pfSense of any version on my Asus P5K board, but not with gigabyte MB.
I can't afford to buy new mobo+CPU+RAM for pFsense right now, so I would appreciate any help.p.s.
I like pfSense very much and want to stick with it.
I'm FreeBSD newbie, but I'm fast learner, and have some experience with Linux. Searched the forum and the Internet but found no solution. -
Which PCIe slot are you using? Also, have you disabled the unnecessary onboard devices?
-
All unnecessary onboard devices are disabled in BIOS.
I used both slots. I actually planned to use two Intel 82574L and I tried all possible combinations PCIe x 1 and PCIe x 16. Both filled, and one card in different slots. No change. -
May have to use 2.0 with its newer FreeBSD base for that hardware.

I've already tried 2.0 betas both x64 and x86 with same result!
