Fail to boot / install pfSense-2.0-BETA4 amd64/i386
-
Virtual Machine type: qemu pc-0.12
arch: x86_64
2 x CPU (host has Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3430 @ 2.40GHz)
3 x vNIC: e1000tried to boot from: pfSense-2.0-BETA4-20101104-1742.iso (AMD64)
if VM arch "i686" is selected, booting ends at "CPU doesn't support long mode" (I guessed that mean needs 64-bit capabilites)Here are screenshots. It keeps rebooting all time. Any ideas? Looks like serious hardware conflict..
Any other 64-bit distro just works fine.EDIT: to avoid opening new thread… I tried to install latest i386 build on i686 VM qemu (pfSense-2.0-BETA4-20101104-0049.iso), it hangs at 45% --> screenshot.
Tried second time, it hanged again. CPU utilization at 5% - nothing happends.
Tried 3rd time and.. install completed (after ~10 mins).

I got the same errors on the last two builds AMD64.
I've gone back to a previous release until this is fixed.

FWIW: I've never been able to boot any of the 2.0 builds in a Hyper-V VM on an AMD Opteron - I chalked it up to a BSD problem which would hopefully work itself out.

There was a patch introduced into the tree on Nov 3rd that broke amd64. It's being investigated. There's already a ticket open for it:
http://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/995
i386 is fine though.

Hello jimp,
I am having this issue with the latest snapshot on amd64 hardware, any idea how to recover / downgrade? would be grateful for any pointers.

Only way out is to reinstall from a good ISO (the 15xx iso from the 3rd is OK I believe) and you might be able to do a recovery install to reload the config from the hdd. Otherwise you'll need to restore from a backup.
