      md5 pfSense-1.2.3-RELEASE-LiveCD-Installer.iso.gz
      MD5 (pfSense-1.2.3-RELEASE-LiveCD-Installer.iso.gz) = 2faf15543658eb89c80fb3e3666f0e9f

      md5 pfSense-1.2.3-RELEASE-LiveCD-Installer.iso.gz.md5
      MD5 (pfSense-1.2.3-RELEASE-LiveCD-Installer.iso.gz.md5) = ec1f248ea6f2982fe72a388674d790b3

Are you saying you calculated the MD5 of the .md5 file?

By the way, the contents of the .md5 file are:

        MD5 (pfSense-1.2.3-RELEASE-LiveCD-Installer.iso.gz) = 2faf15543658eb89c80fb3e3666f0e9f

So if what you stated first is what came from getting the MD5 of your own file, then it is a match.

Thanks for the reply. I apologize I am new at this and trying to learn. How did you get the md5 hash of the .md5 file?  ???

How do I compare the checksum of the .iso.gz to that of the .iso.gz.md5?

I did take the md5 of both files and compared them, I know that is wrong.

You don't take the checksum of the .iso.gz.md5 file.  It contains the md5 of the iso.gz file, for comparing with what you calculate.

Calculate the MD5 of the iso.gz file.

Open the .iso.gz.md5 file in a text editor (e.g. Notepad), compare the contents to the calculated MD5 of the iso.gz file.
