I've got two pfSense boxes each with it's own WAN connection from different ISPs.  VIPs are setup for LAN failover, but can the two WAN interfaces (each on it's own pfSense box) be configured for failover if one or the other fails?

      LAN VIP    sync
              \        |
                ---pfsense2---WAN2

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No. You would need to have both WANs connected to both units for failover to work in that way.
