Upgrading from AMD single core to Intel Dual Core
-
Just want to make sure I don't screw anything up.
My pfSense box has been freezing lately almost every night so I decided it was time for an upgrade.
The current setup is on an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU. The new setup will be a dual core Core i3 Intel CPU.Current version of pfSense: 1.2-RELEASE built on Sun Feb 24 17:04:58 EST 2008
I downloaded pfSense-Full-Update-1.2.3-RELEASE.tgz
From what I've read I should be able to:
- Swap out the hardware
- Boot into BIOS and disable ACPI and all unused hardware
- Boot up the system and potentially deal with any interface mismatches
- Then run the update via the web interface (might have to run twice to change to the SMP kernel)
Then everything should be good I hope.
Any flaws in this plan? Potential problems moving to a completely different platform. I have made a configuration backup.

Should be alright. Give it a whack.
