Is it possible to take a 1.2.3 config with traffic shaping and upgrade to 2.0.  I've tried it two ways:

      • existing 1.2.3, applied pfSense-Full-Update-2.0-BETA5-20110103-1914.tgz.
      • new install of pfSense-2.0-BETA5-20110103-2225.iso.gz, applied old 1.2.3 config
In both cases, the upgrade works except that I don't have any of the queues coming across.  Note that, on the original 1.2.3, I had one custom queue in addition to many default queues generated by the shaper wizard.

      Thanks, yakupm

From what I've learned the Shaper in 2.0 changed quite a bit so I guess you'll have to start over. It works differently than in 1.2.3…

From what I'm starting to gather, traffic shaping in 2.x is WAY different than 1.2.3.  Worse yet so far is that there isn't exactly a definitive howto guide up yet that I've found.  From looking at things traffic shaping might be a hell of a lot more complex in 2.x than it is in 1.2.3.

The shaper changed too much to upgrade existing rules. The old shaper rules are not carried over to 2.0 on purpose. In most cases just running through the new wizard should be sufficient for people, but yeah it can get pretty complicated.

Thanks for all your replies.  I suspected it might be due to significant changes in the shaper.  Oh well, it'll be some work (roughly 30 pfsense boxes) but I'm sure it will be worth it.  One of the things I've been looking forward to is traffic shaping with more than 2 interfaces.

One additional question - what is the best upgrade path?  Upgrade existing 1.2.3 to 2.0 OR clean install 2.0 and apply 1.2.3 config file?

Special thanks to all the developers.  Happy New Year.

                Should be functionally equivalent, really.
