      Hi,

I tryed to install pfSense-1.0.1-Embedded.img.gz on Nexcom 1041c and 1045 CF and both failed with error :
      ad2: FAILURE - READ status=51 <ready,dsc,error>error=10 <nid_not_found>LBA=254975

This message appear each time the system need to read/write to CF !
But weird pfsense boot and seem to be usable  ???

On both CF is seen as IDE secondary master (ad2) and I suspect it must be on ad0 (IDE primary master) to make pfsense happy ???

From what I know it is not possible to change CF from secondary to primary channel on 1041 and 1045 cause it is limit of hardware design. I can only change IDE mode (master or slave) on NSA 1045 with JP3.

I saw some people saying they are using nexcom with CF… so my question is did anyone have had the same issue ? If yes how did you solved it ?

PS: Also tryed with monowall generic-pc-1.22.img and I can not boot the system (can not find config.xml).

      Regards,
      Yacine.</nid_not_found></ready,dsc,error>

        Yes,

I receive the same error message on consoleport.
I use an other mainboard (but I do not have more detailed information) and a PreTec m-ide 120 MB harddisk.

Allways I read or write information, the message will be displayed.
Is this an error-message or only a debug message (I can ignore it) ?
How can I disable this message ?

        Best Regards Arrpork

I run several Nexcom 1041c's, some with hdd's, some from embedded. I haven't checked the consoleoutput on the embeddeds lately but never had issues with them either. So IF the output is there on my systes as well it never caused any issues for me (Using pfSense since earlie betas til recent snapshots with them). I'll however check it later if I get the chance to.

I know this post is a couple months old, but I just bought a Nexcom 1041 and for the life of me, I cannot get pfsense to install to a hard-disk.  It installs most of the time if it doesn't report a geometry error on this disk but when it boots, I get a "cannot find kernel" or INSERT SYSTEM DISK.  The bios reports the disk being there.  Booting from CF Card, pfsense boots fine.  I've tried multple HD's from various vendors with no luck.

<<update>>  As someone suggested in a previous post, I changed the hard-drive to LBA instead of "AUTO" and now it boots fine.</update>

This is not pfSense-Problem, but a FreeBSD-Problem … but I had a Server running with FreeBSD on a Compact-Flash with this message for over a year.

              It should be usable, yes.

I think pfSense uses ufs-label and mounts /dev/ufs/pfSense in /etc/fstab it doesn't matter if its ad0 or adN.
Very seldom you have to adjust /boot/loader.conf or use boot0cfg to switch to a different drive …
