      Hello,

I've been trying to install 2.0 (1.2.3 installs perfectly).

      -Toshiba A10 laptop, 1GB DDR333 and a 80GB IDE / PATA hard drive.
-Install medium is CDROM (I have tried several different brands of CDRW's)

Similar to this persons problem when booting FreeNAS: http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/freenas/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=217

On both machines the bootloader doesn't get the PFsense boot menu and gets stuck here (see attached image) (this screenshot was taken in a virtual machine just at the right time but you'll get the idea):

Not sure why it might be failing there, but have you tried using one of the USB memstick images to install? Or can that laptop not boot from USB?

          Thanks for the reply jimp,
Unfortunately you're correct, the laptop cannot boot from USB.

And no hope of a BIOS update or anything similar?

I suppose you could boot 1.2.3 and install it, then apply a 2.0 firmware update on top of it.

It's running the latest 1.3 BIOS and even if there was an update you'd have to install Windows just to upgrade it (because Toshiba are "awesome")

That's a good idea actually, do you know how 'clean' upgrading from 1.2.3 to 2.0 is?

It should be fine to upgrade that way.

I'm not aware of anything adverse from doing that.

OK, I'll give it a go.
A small part of me wonders if perhaps the boot-loader will get stuck after upgrade but we'll see.
It's not a mission critical machine (obviously) so I'm not too stressed.

Hard to say for sure, but booting from CD is a bit of a different animal than booting from a hard drive.
