Some kind of read error when looking at the System>Packages menu in the Web GUI
-
Hi I was just wondering when I installed pf sense, I used the uniprocessor is it? Just thought I would make an educated decision as it said machines/systems with 1 processor, which is what I have.
Ok that said, when it was going through the hard drive install process it came up with an error, cant actually remember the message now, but though I would count my losses and just skip it.
I am not at my pf sense computer at the moment, I mean I will be by the end of today, but it did come up with some read error in PHP over the gui, has anyone experienced this before?
It won't allow me to install any packages, all I want at the moment is a DNS server (preferably BIND 9 and then Squid with Squid Guard), would be wonderful if I could get those installed as thats all I want and require.
Thanks and I look forward to any replies,
Jeremy.PS It does work though, wonderfully using some of the tips some people have given me, but its just this niggling problem I cant seem to understand what to do about.

I am on my computer now and this is the error I get:
Warning: file_get_contents(/etc/version): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /usr/local/www/pkg_mgr.php on line 73
packages Installed Packages
Warning: file_get_contents(/etc/version): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /usr/local/www/pkg_mgr.php on line 107
Can someone offer their assistance as to what this means, this is assuming its to do with a version problem or something?

If that file is missing, I have to wonder if others may be. Did something happen to that system that would have corrupted the filesystem?
You may want to get a config backup and reinstall, though in a pinch you could try to just upload the firmware for whatever release you're on. For example, if you're on 1.2.3 release, upload a 1.2.3 release firmware update and let it go, though that process may also have issues if there are missing files.

In all honesty its probably because of the install error, got the lastest release and burnt that to a new cd, unfortunately (was kind of hoping/praying this wouldn't happen, but it did lol), but I was running it off the Live CD, due to me having to be back at work asap lol was home for my lunch and then I go back (wish i'd just left it to be honest with that error and tried what you replied with, oh well; live and learn lol).
I tried accessing port 81 when off the live CD erm, didnt work lol, crashed the computer, oh well I'll just re install it, got a much better way of resetting it all though now rather than having to go around the back and unplug the 2 ethernet cables.
Just one question the computer has just crashed, there's no chance the DVD-RW will cease will it? Just worried about it spinning to the point of it burning out, I don't think that would happen (really well not bother doing that again lol).
Yea just worried about the DVD-RW drive atm, will work it out the rest when I get home tonight, I have a virtual machine anyhows at work so I'll just use that for now until I can go home and sort it out, in 2 and a half hours lol.
Thanks for the advice though, if the same error appears I will try that,

Scratch that its just come back to life lol.
Probably just a huge amount of lag on it to be honest, no wonder its on the Live CD at the moment, but the main core will have loaded into memory so not to worry.
Will try that tip you suggested if the same error occurs when I try to write the configs to the hard drive, so happy its working again lol.
Thanks for your help,
Jeremy.
