Using dyndns in firewall rules
-
Experts,
Is there any way to use dyndns in firewall rulles? AS fo 1.2.3 it asks for IP. Also tried to use aliases but it also ask for real IP not DYNDNS name.
Please advice.
Thank You

In 1.2.3 it isn't really effective. In 2.0 it works great.
In 1.2.3 there is a trick you can use - you can make an alias and then in the first spot, put a fake/dummy IP (127.0.0.2, for example) and then you can put hostnames in the second box and any others.
The problem is on 1.2.3 those are only resolved once, when the filter rules are (re)loaded, so if it changes periodically it won't do you much good. On 2.0 they are checked and updated every few minutes.

thank you for reply
I believe it is time for 2.0 …... Is it on a stable level?
I have seen someehere that RC is comming ....

If all goes well, RC1 should be in the next few days.
It's pretty stable if you use builds from the last couple days.

yes that's true that using dyndns with firewall rules is pretty easy and works nice …. I am suing 2.0 beta 5 and so far only noticed the problem with country blocking - even thought cron is scheduled to run every 5 min this is off :(
