My whole reason for using PFSense is to get a report of internet use.  I am using it as a transparent proxy and apparently ntop is the package I should use.  It has been broken for quite some time according to the bug report.

Any updates would be on the ticket.

There are none.  I am trying to get some awareness so that someone might actually work on it.

…and any updates would be on the ticket. No updates means nobody has been working on it.

I know that is what it means.  But If get others asking…there might be some movement.  It is really the only thing I need and was the whole reason I installed pfSense.

Cino - A ticket already exists.

Donoreo - Asking won't speed it along.

NTOP is a mess even when it does work, it's not something I'd really want on a router these days. If you just need per-IP stats, run bandwidthd.

Seruiously?  Well, I guess I will be looking for something else.  Bandwidthd does not give me what I need: I want a report of what machines on our network are going where and doing what (HTTP, FTP, etc).

Is there anything in pfSense that will give me what I want?

Exporting netflow (pfflowd, softflowd, etc) to a dedicated collector will do that. You could even run NTOP on another box as a collector if you want and have pfflowd push data to it there.

I have never heard of that before, what do I need as a "collector"?

NTOP can be a collector when run on its own system.

Any tricks?  I have tried several collectors and none of them report anything being sent.  However netstat on the collector machine shows a connection on the correct port.
