      Hi All

I'm new to the FreeBSD world and I'm a novice with pfsense. Using instructions from a site, I tried to install apcupsd but pkg_add doesn't seem to be installed on my system. What am I missing ?

      Using pfsense 1.2.3-RELEASE

It certainly should be installed. What error are you getting?

However the package repo referenced by FreeBSD 7.2 is no longer there. You need to change where it's looking either by specifying the path to the package directly or by changing an environment variable.
        See: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,32047.0.html

        Correct syntax would be:

        pkg_add -r ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-7-stable/Latest/apcupsd.tbz

It was my fault. I'm too embarrassed to tell what I did. Suffice it  to say: all ssh sessions look alike

I did a usbdevs too see what device my apc ups is on and got this:

addr 1: UHCI root hub, Intel
addr 1: UHCI root hub, Intel
          addr 2: Back-UPS RS 1000 FW:7.g8 .D USB FW:g8, American Power Conversion
addr 1: UHCI root hub, Intel
addr 1: EHCI root hub, Intel
addr 1: UHCI root hub, Intel
addr 1: UHCI root hub, Intel
addr 1: UHCI root hub, Intel
addr 1: EHCI root hub, Intel

How should I address the device for my ups? /dev/usb2 ??

Does the ups require a driver or is it a usb-serial adapter?

What does it show up in the logs as if you hotplug it?
