i am looking for a single download link to the latest release candidate, i go to all the mirrors and there is prolly 30 different links, i see the 2.0 and that is what i want to try out and yet i see all these other links to other kinds, i am running a 64 bit processor, and would like the link to that one,

i am sorry but i tried downloading like 7 or 8 different links and none worked as of yet

so a simple link to a downloadable version for a 64 bit computer if anyone can

Please and thank you to all who will help me out

      Adrian

Here is a link to the ISO cd image 64 bit build of the signed 2.0RC1 release:
        http://pfsense.phoenixkv.net/downloads/pfSense-2.0-RC1-amd64-20110226-1807.iso.gz
It's gziped so you have to extract it before writing it.

There are daily snapshot images available but unless you have a specific problem I would stick to this version. The snapshots, whilst mostly very stable, can and have introduced new bugs in the process of fixing others. The RC1 release was found to have very few bugs and no show stoppers after testing.

I would actually recommend current snapshots over RC1. There were several nasty bugs in RC1, especially with config upgrades, that have been fixed since, and numerous other beneficial fixes.

RC2 should be coming soon, no exact ETA but it's close.

Ah, thanks for putting me right Jim.
I hope I've not misled too many people. ย :-[

Interesting that I was under the wrong impression, I don't think I'm a particularly uninformed user. Perhaps a sticky on the 2.0 forum is in order.

If I were coming to pfSense for the first time the blog still has this about the rc1 release:
[quote]This is considered a stable release suitable for production use
              With links to the mirrors.
              This could be misleading?

              Steve

Oh that post isn't wrong, that is fine for many people, it's just that the current state of snapshots is pretty good (which it wasn't for a while shortly after RC1 was released).

                  Hmmm, ok.
There is the possiblity though of a new bug being introduced in the daily snapshot.
I find it hard to recommend using a snapshot to a new user given that there is a chance (albeit low) it may have a show stopping bug.
I realise that the more people we have using the latest snapshot the faster bugs can be squashed.
                  A conundrum!ย  :-\

Indeed, but that's why it isn't a -RELEASE yet. Even using an RC image has risks.
