Intermittent and unexplained problems in PFSense
-
Hi All,
For the past week, I've been racking my brains trying to get PFSense working, it's been hit and miss, what works one day, doesn't work the next etc etc
Finally, yesterday I managed to get both outgoing traffic (HTTP, SMTP) working as well as inbound port forwarding working (for email), I did this 5PM-6PM yesterday, confirmed it was working both ways and left home. I came in this morning to find outgoing working fine, but incoming port forwards not working, I checked with an online port tester and both incoming port forwards (SMTP and HTTP) are closed. Nothing has changed in the rules; it just stopped working. I had to quickly switch over to the old Watchguard firewall. It stopped working sometime around 8PM yesterday. No one else has access to the rotuer, and none of the rules or the NAT has been changed. Any ideas on why it would just suddenly stop working after a couple of hours or where to start investigating the cause?

No telling from that description. Need to troubleshoot with packet capture. The traffic still getting to you on WAN? Leaving on LAN? Getting a reply back on LAN? that reply going out WAN? Need to find out where it is seen and isn't.

I'm not sure what the problem was, but I tried again a few days later and it has been ok for the past 5 days now. Fingers crossed.. ;D
I did note one problem though, even though I had deleted an old Gateway via Interfaces, it was still showing up under System > Routing. Maybe that was why… :-\
