      Hi,

In the nanobsd version I can switch between slices in case the system is corrupt.

Is there such a functionality in the live version of pfSense too, sort of system backup instead of config only?

No and IMO you should only see slices as how you upgrade the nanobsd version.

Using the slices as a "backup" in case it gets corrupt is a valid use case, but it isn't quite as valid on a full install.

On nanobsd, it's needed because it's quite difficult to reflash a card to get a working base on there. For a full install, it's (comparatively) much easier to wipe+reload from CD and restore the config all in one go.

Yes, it's easier to reinstall but not really on a remote site. Sure we can leave the install cd in the tray in case of a problem but we need anyway a KVM for a reinstall.

No problem so far with 2 firewalls and failover. I just wanted to know the possiblities for a worst case scenario  ;)

You still need serial console access to the router to switch slices (or KVM on a full install) so it doesn't buy you all that much. If you have access via something like DRAC/ilo you can probably even reinstall remotely using an iso image.
