      Hello,

I have two Servers and i want set on both servers two master CARPS and two backup CARPS, so the CARPS will be Master / Backup crosswise. but when i added the carps on both servers, one server takes all CARPS as Master and the other server is backup for all CARPS, although we have set the Advertising Freq. as described.

      Here my Setup:

      Server1:
      WAN: 10.10.120.2
      LAN: 10.10.121.11
      CARP0: 10.10.121.10  vhid 1 Advertising Freq. 0 on LAN
      CARP1: 10.10.120.1 vhid 2 Advertising Freq. 0 on WAN
      CARP2: 10.10.121.12 vhid 3 Advertising Freq. 100 on LAN
      CARP3: 10.10.120.3 vhid 4 Advertising Freq. 100 on WAN

      Server2:
      WAN: 10.10.120.4
      LAN: 10.10.121.13
      CARP0: 10.10.121.10  vhid 1 Advertising Freq. 100 on LAN
      CARP1: 10.10.120.1 vhid 2 Advertising Freq. 100 on WAN
      CARP2: 10.10.121.12 vhid 3 Advertising Freq. 0 on LAN
      CARP3: 10.10.120.3 vhid 4 Advertising Freq. 0 on WAN

      thx for help!

I think this is not possible due to the way carp works. All IPs are always master on the same machine. Think of what would happen if WAN CARP IPs switch over to the backupmachine but the CARP gateway VIP at LAN would still be at the master (as there are no issues at LAN but only WAN has uplink/wiring issues).

          Hi,

I'm trying to test also a Master/Master config, and it seems to work… After a while, the two CARP status pages look as expected, with master address in each machine, and the corresponding backup in the other. Further testing must be done to test all the possible issues with this configuration.

The only trick is to disable the Virtual IP sync in CARP settings, and define by hand the CARP address in the two firewalls, with different advertising frequencies (0-100).

Anyone has a production experience of a master/master setup?
