Watchguard Firebox X15 Edge MF16S32E10???
-
Hi,
Will PfSense latest version run fine on this hardware platform?
Thanks for looking into this. -
I haven't looked inside one of those but I'm pretty sure it's not X86 so no.
The model that replaced it, X10e,X20e or X55e all the same hardware, is an arm soc. Intel IXP425.
I spent some time playing around with that trying to load dd-wrt or openwrt.
What success we had is documented here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=72341Steve
Edit: It's a Marvell MIPS SoC. It's not supported by dd-wrt either. :(

Thanks Steve,
reading up all that I think it is indeed a no go with my knowledge! The specifications for the Firebox
X Edge e-Series and the Firebox X Edge e-Series Wireless are:
Processor X Scale (ARM)
CPU 266 MHz
Memory: Flash 64 MB
Memory: RAM 128 MB
Ethernet interfaces 6 each 10/100
Serial ports 1 DB9
Power supply 12V/1.2A -
Steve,
I stumbled into this and was wondering if the hardware is still ok, would you mind to look in this?

Model upgradeable to the X55e with a simple downloadable license key as business needs grow.I have seens somewhere in this forum someone was succesfull in the X55e model to install pfsense.
Does this mean it could be possible to install pfsense on this X15 box if only the license key is needed to get it upgraded to X55e??http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,20095.0.html

No unfortunately not.
What you are looking at is three completely different models/hardware.
The X5, X15, and X50, a MIPS SoC running VXworks.The X10e, X20e and X55e, an ARM SoC running Linux.
The X550e, X750e and X1250e, X86 hardware running Linux. This can run pfSense, I have three of these boxes now.
At the moment pfSense only runs on X86 hardware.

Aha, ok, thanks a lot for taking time to explain, much appreciated :)
I am trying to get a less noisy equipment and less energy slurping as what I am testing with.
-
No problem. :)
What are you testing with?
You can go with passive cooling only on some Atom processors or other low power systems such as the Alix boards.
I have my X750e down to 22w at idle (which is almost all of the time) and with the power consumption so low it doesn't need much cooling so the fans can be turned right down.Steve

This is my pfSense firewall project.
Supermicro P4SCi, P4 3.00GHZ (2threads) 2GB memory, 2x 120GB PATA WD1200JB-00GVC0.
ON BOARD;em0, WAN 1:
em3, LAN 2:EXTRA WITH PCI-X SLOT (DUAL NIC)
em2, WAN 3:
em1, LAN 4:LAGG0 (Failover) em0 + em2 (WAN)
LAGG1 (LACP) em3 + em1 (LAN)I had to modify the config.xml file to get my laggs set-up for the redundant ports :-) there was no way around to do this with a 'standard' install, now I only need to figure out how I can bind the 2 WANS to combine both speeds to one…
But this is a server config and so loud I had to take of the FAN and just put a silent FAN on it to be able to test with it... :-))
