      Would connecting a new modem (not a modem-router hybrid) on a pfsense router require a reconfiguration?

        @unregistered00:

        Depends. For example, if the WAN side of your existing modem talks pppoe and the WAN side of your pfSense doesn't and your new modem-only interface doesn't support pppoe then you will need to reconfigure your pfSense WAN interface to talk pppoe.

        That is the change I had to make when I replaced an ADSL modem-router by a basic ADSL modem.

          So it's plug and play when the Internet connection is DHCP while there is a configuration needed when the it's in PPPoE? Am I understanding it correctly?

          Is the configuration of the Internet connection only done in Interfaces > WAN/OPT1?

            Yes to those questions but…

            From the questions you are asking it seems as though you are trying to reconfigure a pfSense box you didn't setup yourself? Please explain your situation a little more so we can provide a more helpful level of answer!  :)
