      I am newbie to PfSens and I wanna to say it's really great :)

      In the past three weeks, I have been working on testing Pfsense 2.0-RC2 and I always used the latest version on Snapshot.
      There is one question about PPPoE and I didn't see any fix on it… So I post my log here for your reference, hopefully there will have some fix or solution for me..

      Basically I have a ADSL modern, PfSense connect to the modern by using PPPoE..

      In random the PPPoE will be lost and unable to reconnect. The only solution is to restart the PfSense and it will be recovery.

      I have just saved the log in system and PPP.

          This is the same problem as me and some others are having (see: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,35475.msg195777.html#msg195777). Personally I've spent quite a few hours trying to figure out what goes wrong, and from the looks of it the problem is in mpd and not in pfSense.

          Devs are asking for help with debugging to solve it, but there really isn't anything else to post then what xbipin in the other thread has already supplied, unless there is some other way to debug mpd that I dont know about..

          Since it seems just a few of us are facing this, it won't get much priority to fix before final I think, especially if the problem resides outside the pfSense code. But there is a work around in the other thread.

              I have read the post a lot however I didn't find any solution there… So I post my question here even they are similar. Hopefull we can figure it out.

              May I ask do you have the lost of connection while heavily loaded on PPPoE?

              Because I found it mostly got connection lost with heavily load on PPPoE..

              The ISP is going to send me a new ADSL modern this weekend. Maybe it's the problem of modern?

                Why do you have two pppoe interfaces tied to the same physical interface?

                You might get a different result if you delete the apparently unused pppoe interface.

                  You might get a different result if you delete the apparently unused pppoe interface.

                  Actually they are two different I/F cards. I was trying to use the different I/F card however there comes the same result.
                  I will just delete the one that no use and try again..

                    This is the same problem as me and some others are having (see: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,35475.msg195777.html#msg195777). Personally I've spent quite a few hours trying to figure out what goes wrong, and from the looks of it the problem is in mpd and not in pfSense.

                    Devs are asking for help with debugging to solve it, but there really isn't anything else to post then what xbipin in the other thread has already supplied, unless there is some other way to debug mpd that I dont know about..

                    Since it seems just a few of us are facing this, it won't get much priority to fix before final I think, especially if the problem resides outside the pfSense code. But there is a work around in the other thread.

                    i have been complaining of the issue since the time mpd was upgraded on pfv2 and its definately mpd and frankly speaking i cant figure out a way to put mpd in a complete debug mode or else it could have been fixed by now

                      The screenshot you posted shows pppoe0 and pppoe1 both using the same interface em0. So the screenshot you posted is not of the configuration with the trouble?

                        The screen shots are exactly the configurations I am using.. I think there is some misunderstanding here.
                        I was using 3 LAN ports on this machine, two of them are WAN and one is LAN. that's why there are two PPPoE port.But there is always one PPPoE connection.
                        Now I removed one LAN port but I didn't remove the configuration in Pfsnese.
                        As you can see from another screen shot(interfaces_assign.php), I choose the PPPoE1 for WAN port and I am sure it's working.

                        Now I have removed the PPPoE0 so there is only one PPPoE1 in the list.

                          There is a possible ambiguity with two pppoe interfaces using the one physical interface: which pppoe interfaces gets the incoming ppp traffic from the single physical interface?

                            PPPoE1 is getting the incoming traffic from physical interface.

                            And I have removed the PPPoE0 since it's no longer to be used…

                            The problem is still be there and I am waiting for the new ADSL modern.
                            I have tried to exchange everything(eg:cable,I/F card...) except for ADSL modern...

                              does the connection drop soradically or under heavy load?

                              try setting the mtu to 1492 on the interface the modem is connected to.

                                I see the connection drop under heavy load mostly..
                                I always set the MTU to 1492 by manual according to ISP's regulation.

                                  how is memory usage and cpu utilization when you saturate the dsl line? is enough memory and cpu left?

                                  I used pfsense 2.0 beta and 2.0RC1 with a 16/1 dsl line over pppoe for about 4 months and it worked flawlessly.

                                  what brand is the ethernet port your dsl modem is connected to? do you have the possibiity to try out a different interface brand (e.g. Intel)?

                                    After I exchange the ADSL modern with my ISP, it seems everything working fine now.

                                    I have tried to use the new modern with heavy load traffice for serveral hours and there is no disconnect and a little packet loss.

                                    So I think the problem is due to ADSL modem..

                                        Good for you, I replaced my modem and thought things were fine and dandy. Three days later multiple disconnects, your problem may be fixed but PPPoE is not. Someone recently on twitter went back to 1.2.3 because of these PPPoE disconnects. I just wished I could of helped the developers better on this issue, and I am sure we all wished that. It seems like this error is a show stopper for people so they quickly make a change because it is too risky to troubleshoot in a production environment.

                                        Version 1.2.3 works in all PPPoE environments 2.0 still has the issue.
                                        I still love pfSense and would not think of using anything else, I just hope we can get to the bottom of this.
