Have an IPSec tunnel up (and having general uptime issues in particular) so I wanted to setup the pfsense to syslog to a remote host across the IPSec tunnel.  Not having any luck.  In fact, from the shell, I can't even netcat or telnet across the tunnel as there's no routes for the IPSec tunnel (even though it's up and accessible via the webgui and SSH obviously).  Why are there no routes for the remote subnet?  Find that kind of odd.

It works fine, you just need a small routing trick.
