      Hi all,

I've got all kinds of equipment going on right now and would like to downsize for heat/power/noise savings. Right now I have a 30Mbps/5Mbps connection, and the following setup:

      • An old Pentium M laptop running PFSense 2 on the internal NIC and an external USB one

      • A Netgear 802.11n Router

      • A WRT54G 802.11g Router (I keep this running so the G network devices won't slow down the N devices, but am probably going to ditch this altogether)

What I would like to do is switch out the laptop for a fanless Dell Mini (or some other netbook with no fans), and potentially use the built in wireless in place of the wireless routers.

Anyone have experience with the wireless range on these compared to a usual router? And will the Atom be able to handle up to a 50Mbps downstream?

      Thanks,
      B.

The LX800 500MHz CPU in an Alix is capable of doing about 50/50 or 80-85 in one direction (provided you aren't running snort, squid, etc.) and an Atom, even the original version is far more powerful.  The question is, is the WiFi card in your Mini even supported?

        I can break anything.
