[SOLVED] Installation problems on Dell R200
-
Hi,
I'm having major problems installing the latest 2.0 RC3 snapshot onto a Dell R200. During the install, there are numerous timeout errors reported with the CD. Ok, others have had the same problem, eg http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,12900.0.html and alluded to in http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=12372.0 whereby the solution seems to be to use an external DVD drive.
However, even with the internal DVD drive, two different brands of USB DVD drive (after the timeout errors eventually stop) and even burning to a USB stick, the install gets to the point where it's executing the following:
/usr/local/bin/cpdup -vvv -I -o /usr/mnt/usr
but just gets stuck at 38% with no USB/HDD activity. The kernel is obviously still running as the spinny thing is moving and if I try to eject the device it pops up with SCSI/USB eject messages.
My particular R200 does not have a hardware RAID, so I've tried with and without a software RAID, and disconnecting each of the HDDs in case it's a weird drive failure. I've also tried both AMD64 and i386 versions.
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks,

I got this same issue and after spending two days trying to solve, changing hardware, etc. I unplugged the network cable and it worked like a charm!
I hope this will your case.
Resuming: do not connect the ethernet cable until the installer ends.

Gaaaaah, I've been pulling my hair out over this and it does indeed work.
