After updating to Sat Sep 3 21:08:08 EDT 2011 snapshot:

      – A new DNS server, 127.0.0.1, appeared in DNS server(s) list in Dashboard.

-- The 'version' box displayed the "Unable to check for updates" messaged, indicating that the DNS resolver can't resolve pfsense update FQDN. It can still resolve other FQDNs.

The DNS resolver has been working flawlessly until the update.

Other DNS-related services, such as DNS Forwarder and Dynamic DNS, are disabled.

You can turn the localhost off as a dns server by checking the box "Do not use the DNS Forwarder as a DNS server for the firewall " in System: General Setup and see if that changes anything.

It works. Thank you very much.

It is interesting that the forwarder was still in effect even if it isn't enabled.
