Squid error messages on startup
-
We have squid running on pfsense 2.0 release . IT works but on startup there are a whole bunch of error messages relating to squid. It seems like squid has trouble starting and does eventually.
here are some of the messages. Are these normal or is there a problem. We even tried a fresh install and still get these errors.

Not sure if this is "normal" or not but I am using squid, too and I got the same error messages as you. For me squid is working without any problems and I think for many other, too.
Just use it, it will work :-)

I'm having the same log entries as well, except Squid never starts.
I've installed it (w/ squidguard) on a couple of dozen pfSense boxes and it's always behaved before. What I did:
Without any packages installed - I updated to i386-20110929-1702 from http://files.pfsense.org/jimp/ipv6/Straightened out the ntpd not running issue.
Installed unbound and fixed Unbound not running issue.
Installed CountryBlock+IPBlocklist without issue.Installed Squid this morning - No errors during the install but Squid won't start.
Tried to access the config page and got No Such File or Directory /usr/local/sbin/squid .
I touch /usr/local/sbin/squid, chown -R root:wheel squid, chmod 555 squid .That ditched that error but squid still isn't starting.
I installed squidguard and config'd it but no luck.I uninstalled everything but squid and rebooted. Squid won't start.
The only clue I have is that the Language Dropdown is empty on the Proxy Server -> General page.
Edit:Latest Install Logs.

I'm running out of stuff to try and could really use some help.
Thanks.

I wiped and reloaded with the same version.
I inserted the missing semi-colons into xmlrpc_client.inc to restore access to the packages window.
I downloaded the Squid package, go to the squid config page and get:
Warning: dir(/usr/local/etc/squid/errors/): failed to open dir: No such file or directory in /etc/inc/pfsense-utils.inc on line 432 Fatal error: Call to a member function read() on a non-object in /etc/inc/pfsense-utils.inc on line 433It's not looking hopeful yet.

Here's what I've been able to determine.
The squid installer fails to create:
/usr/local/sbin/squid
/usr/local/libexec/
/usr/local/etc/squid/I copied the above file & 2 directories (recursively) from a working version of squid in 2.0.
I also edited /usr/local/etc/squid/squid.conf to get the IP bindings to match up.Squid shows running now. I haven't tested to see if it works after grafting in those files.
I'm pretty sure this is a squid installer bug - for this version of 2.1 Dev. I'm going to open a new thread about it.
Hopefully that won't be a breach of forum protocol. -
Do you think this is also the case in 2.0 release? I am having the same problem and have been ever since 2.0-RC1
