i cant even remove the package cause stop on Loading package instructions and pfsense stop working (no ping to server)
so i have to reinstall pfsense on my box again .

    i am using 2.0.1-RELEASE .

  • Hi,

got to "DIAGNOSTICS -> Backup/Restore" and Clear package lock.
SSH to your machine and go to
    /usr/local/pkg/

There you remove all files which belong to squidGuard. (.inc and .xml)

    Then try a reinstallation.

I tested yesterday squid and squidguard on a pfsense 2.0.1 amd64 VM and it worked without problems.

  • after incomplete installation of squidguard i can not access to my pfsense box anymore and have to reinstall pfsense.means no ssh no ping no access to that box .

in services menu i can't see that .

ps: other packages install successfully but i cannot install squid guard yet .. :(

  • Squid: Services -> Proxy Server
    SquidGuard: Services -> Proxy Filter

  • do i need install any package before install squidguard ?

  • Package description says it depends on squid package

  • @marcelloc:

Package description says it depends on squid package

i installed squad before but the result is the same .
is there any other way to urlfiltering i can do with pfsense ?

  • Change pfsense dns to 8.8.8.8 and try to reinstall squid + squidguard.

  • sh** man .
i set dns to 8.8.8.8 but that doesnt work .
i think i have to go back to slackware .

  • I think i have to go back to slackware.

Try a 2.0.1 fresh install first. Check internet access and rules before package instalation.

    these packages really works.

    No problems at all

  • @marcelloc:

Something curious at your "squidguard" log. Did you accidentally install Lightsquid instead squidguard ?

    @all:
Could it be possible that his ISP is using some kind of proxy or before pfsense there is a proxy or another filter which blocks some downloads of squidguard and that's why not all neccessary files could be downloaded and the installation aborts ?

If I remember correct in the past there was some users who had the problems I described.

My mistake, I've edited post with right info.

    thanks.

  • thanks for reply .
    2.0.1-RELEASE (i386)  on a box with intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80GHz & 256 ram mem .
can u please give me a download link since it may happen cause of bad iso i've downloaded ?

  • thanks marcelloc .
    ok
i'd download pfsense iso once again and write it on cd and then install but nothing changes .
i'd try to install packages when i was connected to 3 difrence isp each time .
in my network there's nothing like proxy server or something else .
strange thing is that other packages installed completlly but squidguard doesn't.

p.s : sorry for my bad english

  • you did a clean install with no other packages before squid and squidguard?

  • yeah . i did .
    i did everything u say .

  • I'm done with ideas to help you.  :(

the last I have for now is quite unusual but your problem is unusual too.

Try creating a local repo on your network and try installing squidguard from it

    http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Creating_Your_Own_Package_Repository

one thing .. i'd try to install lightsquad and it stops on Loading package instructions… too !! funny ;D
    thank u so much .

  • First I thought it could be the small amount of RAM….just 256MB...
Or perhaps there is to less HDD space left for squidguard and the dependencies !?

Could you first install squid then lower HDD cache in squid to 1MB, then reboot and try with installation of squidguard ?

But that's really uncommon....I tried with a VM and 256MB RAM, too, and it worked.
