if this is not the proper forum, can a mod please move it?

i just configured 2.0.1 and i cant seem to download from certain sites/certain file types.

just to confirm, i had no issues with these sites/downloads while using a consumer router.

i tried to download service pack 3 from MS, just to test a download, and the file is created on my desktop, but never attempts to start the download.

tried on another computer not behind pfsense and the files downloads w/o issues.

another download i tried was the security cameras i have setup at my office location.

      typically, i can enter in…

hxxp://officecameras.companydomain.com:81 and i can download the client files to my PC to install the software on my PC, locally, or i can connect to the cameras in the browser.

neither of these downloads start behind pfsense, but start immediately when i am connected to anything other than pfsense.

is there a rule that i need to create to allow downloads (although some stuff does download).

      thanks.

Did you try any other version of pfSense?
Are you using traffic shaping or any packages?
        Please describe your network.
Have you tried multiple client computers? (different OS?)

If you are using the default settings you shouldn't have to do anything specific to allow downloads.
More likely where ever is hosting the downloads is being blocked. Have you checked the firewall logs when you are trying to download?

        Look through this: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Unable_to_Access_Some_Websites

i have pfsense 2.0.1 installed at work (test environment) and at home.

in both locations i am not able to download from certain sites.

i will try again and check the logs to see what is happening.

when i get to it, i will post back.

i didnt answer all of your questions above.

no additional packages installed and no traffic shaping (not sure what it is, but that is another topic).

            bone stock install of 2.0.1

after i read your last reply, i rebooted the pfsense box and now the download works.

was it a fluke?  bad timing…?

either way, i guess i can say, for now, everything appears to be functioning properly.
