      Hi,

I was looking at some appliances from Lanner, Axiomtek and Portwell and have observed that most of the new models use Intel 82583V Ethernet controller instead of previously popular 82574L.

The hardware notes for FreeBSD 8.1 doesn't list 82583V as a supported controller.

      When I searched Intel's downloadcenter, I found here http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17509&ProdId=3147&lang=eng&OSVersion=FreeBSD*&DownloadType=Drivers

the drivers which are meant for FreeBSD 7.1 which mentions the support for 82583V. But the 7.1 hardware notes doesn't mention 82583V either.

I am really confused at this point of time. Hardware vendors require a MOQ of 20-50 units only then they can replace 82583V with 82574L, which is not possible for me.

Could someone confirm if 82583V is supported on FreeBSD 8.1 and/or pfSense 2.0.x?

According to this appliance manufacturer, it does work:

        http://www.osnet.eu/fr/contenu/firewall-fwa-3030

The appliance uses 5 x 82583v and google translation:
        "The FWA-3030 was tested with pfSense-Release v.2.0 and is 100% compatible…."

        Update:

According to this post, where the poster did a dmesg dump with pfSense 2.0, the em(4) drivers are used for the 82583v.
