Asterisk 1.8 package

  • @marcelloc:

    IIRC, /var is flushed every reboot, so it need to me recreated during package sync/startup

    Is that supposed to be a good thing?

  • there is a type on that post,

    So it needs to be recreated during package sync/startup/boot as it's a memory file system on nanobsd.

    OK, I wasn't aware this was about nanobsd… Missed that part somehow.

    @m4f1050:

    When I restarted my pfSense the gui was no longer available and I am also getting the db warning…
    Unable to re-open master file /var/log/asterisk//cdr-csv//Master.csv : No such file or directory

    check on asterisk.inc if it's checking/creating the /var/db folder

    Nope, it's not creating that on the .inc the .inc file says to replace whatever it's there with /tmp (which I changed it to /usr/local/db/asterisk but it's not taking it..

    Here is what it says when I go to Status / Asterisk

  • (asterisk package with nanobsd installation)
    the problem :

    Unable to re-open master file /var/log/asterisk//cdr-csv//Master.csv : No such file or directory

    has been solved with the shellcmd package, i have created 3 shellcmd :

    mkdir /var/log/asterisk && chmod 0766 /var/log/asterisk 	shellcmd
    mkdir /var/log/asterisk/cdr-csv && chmod 0766 /var/log/asterisk/cdr-csv 	shellcmd
    chown -R asterisk:wheel /var/log/asterisk 	shellcmd

    It is hardcoded but the message has gone… and now i can see the call history until a reboot.
    But now i would like to make things persistent :
    1/ to copy a saved Master.csv (and eventualy astdb) on startup to /var/log/asterisk/cdr-csv/Master.csv
    using shellcmd seems the best solution (but it would be more accurate to do this on service startup?)
    2/ to save Master.csv (an eventually astdb) from memory to my sdcard periodicaly (every day?)
    using cron package seems the best solution
    3/ to save Master.csv (an eventually astdb) from memory to my sdcard on shutdown or asterisk service stop
    NO idea on how to do it...

    is it a good solution or am i completly wrong?

    I'm very happy with pfsense/asterisk and I'm planing to migrate my (little) asterisk server (dockstar + debian lenny+asterisk 1.6) to my pfsense box !

    @m4f1050 : you should try to edit asterisk.conf and modify by hand the directories to /tmp (on nanobsd of course)

    Just tried…  updated asterisk.conf back to /tmp, restarted service = no go, reloaded sip and other option = no go, restarted service again = no go...  Im baffled..

  • You can try to start asterisk from the shell prompt (/usr/local/sbin/asterisk) and then see what happens…
    look at the contents of asterisk.conf before and after starting asterisk : it should not change, because the changes in asterisk.conf are made only one time or when reinstalling-refreshing-resyncing ?- the package(someone correct me if i'm wrong).
    If it work then it could be a problem with file permission (because when you start it from shell it start as root).
    After that if you try to start/stop from the gui then you will have permissions problems (from gui it starts as asterisk) so you should reboot (or make some chown/chmod to files/directories created in /tmp and /var/log).

  • I stopped asterisk from GUI.  Edited the asterisk.conf file and put /tmp for the astdb file, ssh'd and started asterisk, checked back the file and it was still /tmp.

    On status/asterisk from GUI it still shows:  /var/db/asterisk/astdb

  • What is the content of your asterisk.conf (/usr/local/etc/asterisk/asterisk.conf)?
    Do you have this at the beginning?

    [directories]
    astetcdir => /usr/local/etc/asterisk
    astmoddir => /usr/local/lib/asterisk/modules
    astvarlibdir => /usr/local/share/asterisk

    astspooldir => /tmp
    astrundir => /var/run/asterisk

    Removing the (!) now to see if it works…

    (tick...tock...tick...tock...)

    Hmmm!  That seems to have done something...it's now /tmp/astdb
    Maybe add to the installer the removal of (!)
    Wonder if I can set it to /usr/local/db/asterisk now....

    EDIT:

    I left it at /tmp ...   here is my log: (cleared it before starting asterisk)

    I have also some messages about ldap and other .conf files missing, i think it's due to a lot of modules being loaded (autoload module as default?)… It can be solved by not loading the modules that we don't use in our configuration (not a bug, it's normal that the standard installation use autoload of modules)
    I'm not in production with asterisk but i will in a short time and i'm going to tweak my installation and the .conf files to not load the modules that i do not use.
    if you have this message just after a call :
    Unable to re-open master file /var/log/asterisk//cdr-csv//Master.csv : No such file or directory
    go to see :

    is it normal that the /usr/local/etc/asterisk/asterisk.conf files comes with "directories" at the beginning ?
    Generaly the (!) is used for template purpose in sip.conf but it seems to be problematic when used in asterisk.conf…

    Yeah, I noticed it kept showing the errors.  Please let me know when you configure your asterisk, I would love to see the config files (removing any personal information of course.)

    Wonder if we can run a script that replaces values (and stores a temp config file on i.e. /tmp) then have asterisk read from this /tmp/.conf file?  We can then use other symbols, i.e. replace the (!) with [!] and have the script translate it to (!) or compile asterisk to look for something else?  (Is it asterisk the one doing the conf file reading?)

  • Hello,

    Just installed Asterisk packages on pfSense 2.0.1. I can't find the GUI for it. Is there a GUI for it? It would be great if the description for each package tells you which menu the newly installed package goes under. If there is no GUI, the community available tool is the status_asterisk.php file?

    Thanks,

  • It's on status menu.

    If you can't see it, maybe you need to reinstall the package.

  • I see it upon re-install.

    Thanks

  • @tempest69:

    It would also be nice to have the "module show" command or even better the possibility to type commands (like with the  fivn asterisk management  "command" menu)

    Replying to my self.
    To execute all sort of asterisk CLI command, we just have to type it in the browser as a link :
    https://MyPfsense_Url/asterisk_cmd.php ==> will execute the default command "core show sttings"
    and
    https://MyPfsense_Url/asterisk_cmd.php?cmd=module+show ==> Will execute "module show"
    and
    https://MyPfsense_Url/asterisk_cmd.php?cmd=core+show+help ==> Will execute "core show help" giving the list off available CLI commands…
    (not all commands cause it seems to display a limited numbers of characters...)

  • I hope this is the right place to ask this question because I just found this thread.  I am setting up an Asterisk box with a Digium TDM400P with two FXOs and two FXSs so I can tie in POTS and house phones with VOIP.  My original aim was to have a separate pfSense gateway to control access.  Now, having seen this thread, I'm wondering if I wouldn't have the same functionality with only one host.  I would need to move the TDM400P to the pfSense box (and install DAHDI drivers) and I would probably use a browser for Asterisk configuration anyway.  Is all of this currently feasible?  Thanks!

  • I have some packages compiled on my personal repo but take a look on all this thread to get additional info.

    I don't think pfsense is the right place for a voip boad. The idea of this package was to be usefull as a sip gateway/firewall.

  • Anyone has a port of zaptel driver for FreeBSD-8.1? I'd like to use a X100P FXO PCI card on my pfSense box, but it's not even listed in dmesg…

  • @marcelloc:

    I fully agree, but I'm not sure that Asterisk is the right software to use on a SIP gateway/proxy.

    Have a look at:
    http://www.opentelecoms.org/use-a-sip-proxy-instead-of-asterisk

  • @dhatz:

    Works nice  :)

    I fully agree, but I'm not sure that Asterisk is the right software to use on a SIP gateway/proxy.

    That depends on the requirements. In many cases a SIP proxy is just not enough, for example when you need to select between multiple providers based on callee destinations (to select cheapest of them). Or when you need Music on Hold while transferring a call from one handset to another.

  • I was mostly referring to pfsense being a security device (rather than a full blown VoIP pbx, Squid proxy server, NFS/SMB server etc), and so some sort of session-border-controller software (i.e. SIP L7 inspection/filtering) would be the most appropriate to use on pfsense itself …

    Otherwise, I'm sure Asterisk or FreeSWITCH can probably both work fine on it.

  • Since i moved asterisk on my pf-sense box, i have better quality with my calls, i don't know if it's due to move from asterisk 1.6 to 1.8 or move to my pf-sense box. Maybe the few milliseconds gain are sufficient to have better quality? or less nat traffic (udp 5060 no more redirected to another server)?
    So i'm very pleased with this solution!
    i still have work on the subject : save my logs from time to time because i'm on embedded pf-sense. (Yesterday i was with a uptime of +5 weeks, and a short of electric power make me loose all my calls history…)

    And now i have gone to read the opentelecoms site : i want to test sip proxy!

    Nobody?

  • Netgate Administrator

    Appears to be here:
    http://svn.digium.com/svn/dahdi/freebsd/trunk/drivers/dahdi/

    Unfortunately the project to port DAHDI to FreeBSD was completed in Oct 2010, after the 8.1 release so it is not in the 8.1 ports tree. You could try the version from 8-stable but it's a complex package so the chances of it working seem quite small. Backup everything first because you'll probably cause all sort of problems! ;)

    pkg_add -r ftp://ftp-archive.freebsd.org/mirror/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-8-stable/Latest/dahdi.tbz

    When you say 'not even listed in dmesg' are you saying it doesn't even appear as a 'none' device? (one that has no driver attached)

  • hi everybody i'm miguelshady new pfsense user's
    I have a real problem with  asterisk services
    I use pfsense 2.0.1 and I installed the asterisk package, statut state asterisk stpopped and I can't start services or  find files configuration where located in usr / local / etc, as described in the topic, I also install siproxy and FreeSwitch, I would like to allow a user  to call through asterisk server  with their sofphones after a captive portal authentication
    thank you for helping  and sorry for the quality of my english

  • Configure on service at once. siproxy, freeswitch and asterisk will try to bind on the same port.

  • Marcelo,

    In order to edit a configuration file do we start with the xyz.conf-dist files and write to xyz.conf files?
      How do you want or envision configuration to be done?

  • Current package helps only on installing and monitoring only, a future release will include asterisk-gui.

    Edit/rename config files using console, filer package or scp for example.

    att,
    Marcello Coutinho

  • For those who is following this thread, I've submitted asterisk-gui to freebsd ports. Since it's approved, I can add it to this package.

  • Guys thanks for the awesome work!

    I've a pfsense 2.01 on a nanobsd platform running asterisk package successfully.

    While I've the voicemail for only one extension configured, I wanna integrate it with my google IMAP account.

    I was reading details on howto here http://www.asteriskdocs.org/en/3rd_Edition/asterisk-book-html-chunk/voicemail_IMAP_integration.html

    I've configured voicemail.conf successfully and module reload app_voicemail.so does not give me any errors but I still dont see any voice mails coming up on my IMAP. I'm wondering if the IMAP toolkit was compiled into this built of asterisk. Being a no-pro, any heads up on how to check and proceed would be appreciable.

  • Hi all,

    1st post on this forum, so this may not be the place, but thanks so marcelloc for his hard work and tireless support.
    I've been using pfSense for about a year now, and have discovered "real" network administration, it has opened up for me many possibilities for me, learning and achieving so much I can't ever be so thankful !

    Anyway, here is my problem with this module today:
    Since GUI upgrade to 2.0.2, service fails to start:

    Dec 22 12:06:03 root: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/asterisk: WARNING: failed to start asterisk
    Dec 22 12:06:01 php: /status_services.php: The command '/usr/local/etc/rc.d/asterisk stop' returned exit code '1', the output was 'Stopping asterisk /libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /usr/lib/libssl.so.6: unsupported file layout'

    Any ideas ?
    Thanks !

  • @francois13e:

    'Stopping asterisk /libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /usr/lib/libssl.so.6: unsupported file layout'

    In most cases it means wrong arch on libs, for example, amd64 libs on a i386 system.

    Did you upgraded i386 to amd64???

  • Thanks for your prompt reply.
    Ah, that may well be the case !
    Would uninstalling the module and reinstalling correct this, or may I run into other bugs doing so ?

  • @francois13e:

    Would uninstalling the module and reinstalling correct this, or may I run into other bugs doing so ?

    Are you doing it with pkg_add on console/ssh?

    I usually do 99% through the GUI. BTW, I'm using full install, if that helps.
    I now remember I had to use i386 installing 2.0.1, as I had found incompatibilities with my motherboard at install (intel D2500cc), VGA problems were worse on x64. Maybe I should have used a serial setup, but am really not familiar with that.

    I'm just going to uninstall reinstall the package through GUI, see if that helps, and report here. If it breaks, I'll try to reinstall 2.0.2 i386 and load previous configuration.

  • A simple uninstall / install from GUI fixed it.
    Sorry for the trouble, I should have tried that right away.

    Thanks again for your contributions to the project, they're priceless !

  • Any idea when these will be out of beta stage and available via the package section in the webgui?  (asterisk 1.8.x and the asterisk-gui 2.x)
    I am currently on 2.0.2

    Thanks.
