How do I test to see if dynamic dns is working? I am using FreeDNS and pfsense 2.0.1 on an embedded platform. I have access to a remote server. I have tried to ping myself with %100 packet loss.

      Wait… Let me try something....

Okay, I have enabled ICMP on the WAN port. Now I can ping myself from the remote server by domain name and by IP. BUT on the Dynamic DNS page in pfsense has the cached IP in red as 0.0.0.0 . Shouldn't I see the WAN IP address listed there in green?

If the ISP changes my IP address I think that the DNS will not be updated and I will no longer be able to connect by domain name. What do you guys/girls think?

Is the IP address of the pfSense WAN interface a public IP address or a private IP address? This affects how pfSense decides if the address registration needs to be updated.

Maybe you haven't provided the correct details to login to the dynamic DNS to change your registration. What service are you using?

          It works for me.

I have just pasted the auth token from the website in the password field. The IP address was immediately shown in green. I guess it is working now.
