      I recently updated to 2.1-DEVELOPMENT (i386)
      built on Sat Apr 28 05:27:55 EDT 2012
      FreeBSD 8.3-RELEASE
      and noticed that some of the system logs begin at boot time while others go back to well before boot time. For example, the first entry displayed in the GUI from the Portal Auth log is from April 9th, the ppp log from April 20th, the Gateways log from April 18th and the Resolver log from April 18th.

      I don't particularly mind whether the logs include preboot data or not because I have my syslog recorded elsewhere but I would like to see consistency across all the logs.

        We stopped resetting the logs at bootup. It's possible some logs wouldn't get data until features were turned on and such.

        They still will cycle off old entries though, so quiet logs will show earlier dates than busy logs, though the size of the logs was also increased for some of them at the same time.

          @jimp:

          We stopped resetting the logs at bootup.

          OK, thanks for confirmation its intended behaviour.
