I would like to suggest a web install for pfsense. At the moment when i want to reinstall pfsense I have to plug a monitor and keyboard in to my pfsense device. It would make it easier if pfsense booted with one of the NIC as a dhcp server on lan. This would mean that I could connect to it over lan, after booting from a liveusb or livecd. Then a web ui to do a quick install to a local disk and reboot. This way i would not need to plug a keyboard and monitor in to pfsense. After reboot from disk and I could connect to the normal webui and continue configuration as normal.

If not a web install then alternative would be to boot pfsense and auto configure one of the nic as lan from the liveusb or livecd. Then i can get a dhcp lan ip as a client and ssh in to the pfsense device in order to do a install to disk. Also negating the need for a keyboard and monitor.

There already is a web installer in 2.0 and newer.  Browse to /installer and it will take you there.

I did not know that, I will try that next time. How can i access pfsense as no interfaces are configured on pfsense and without a keyboard and screen, is it possible?

interfaces have to be assigned first.

Unless you happen to be lucky and have the default NICs in your config (presently the defaults are vr-based interfaces for ALIX/Soekris) you do have to assign NICs before you can do anything.

There is an open ticket to attempt some sort of "auto assign" but there are some problems with doing that dynamically that are not easy to solve.
