I've been searching for a few hours and cannot figure out why squid and squidguard wont start. I've rebooted multiple times and also tried reinstalling but nothing seems to work.

      Anyone have any ideas?

      Thanks,

Honestly.. I wasted days on this..

but I came up with this…

          Uninstall them all..

run pkg-info to make sure they are gone..

go to /usr/local/pkg/ and delete all references to squid

then install squidguard first - it will fail to complete...
          then install squid3
then reinstall squidguard pkg and xml

it should work.. i can repeat this everytime now

Not sure what pkg-info is, I didnt find anything built into pfsense already or its not a valid command.

I need a hint on where to run this

              Thanks!

So I updated to the latest version of Squid and well, Squid and SquidGuard do not want to start.

So I tried the following which working in the past for me:
                      Uninstall all Squid related packages
run pkg_info to make sure they are gone..
go to /usr/local/pkg/ and delete all references to squid
then install squidguard first - it will fail to complete…
                      then install squid3
then reinstall squidguard pkg and xml

However when I run pkg_info it continues to show 'squid-3.1.19'

Anyways how do I remove that so I can try the reinstall process to get everything working again

Squid3 current version is 3.1.20, did you updated this package recently?

uninstall squid3, go on console and check if there is a squid package there.

pkg_delete squid-3.1.19 should remove previous version if not done by package uninstall

do not reinstall squidguard after squid3 install to avoid package overwrite.

So the package was'nt listed in the console so I deleted with that command. Now no squid packages are listed in the console or the pkg_info.

So I installed Squid3 - 3.1.20 and I cannot get it to start. I havent installed SquidGuard yet.

                          Any ideas?

Try to start squid on console or check the system logs to see what is not working/starting.

Dumb questions but how do i start squid in console mode and what log file should I be looking at  ???

/var/squid/logs access.log and cache.log dont seem to have anything relevant to it starting.

Cleared out system log, tried starting squid three times. nothing shows in the system log.

I tried starting on console, got this error

/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libmd5.so.1" not found, required by "squid"
