Firebox x700
-
I wonder if anyone had installed 2.1 on firebox x500/700/1000 yet. It seems number of fireboxes are running pfsense. Is the box powerfull enought to run posfix, mail scan spam assassin, snort openvpn with 2.1 Right now I am running pfsense 2.1 on dell 860. My cpu usage shows 1% to 2 % and 28% of memory I have 4gb installed. I can get X1000 for 40 shipped.

it's something like a 1ghz p3, not very similar to your dual core PE860

It seems there are quite a few different models of Firebox out there for sale but I can't find anything that indicates how old a particular model might be, what sort of processor it's likely to contain, max memory, etc.
Does anyone know where that sort of information can be found? The watchguard site only seems to be interested in marketing the latest, which is not surprising. Plus, I guess, they want people to see them as more of an appliance and not be concerned with the innards.

The x1000 we had at work was a 1.2Ghz p3 tualitin core iirc. It has 256MB ram, it also has a CF and disk slot. It does have serial, but no idea if it can boot from USB.
I think it can boot the CF images though.

They don't have any usb ports (though they probably have headers) and they are all the spec mentioned above. Though you can swap out the 1.2GHz Celeron for a 1.4GHz P3 if you can find one.
It runs 2.1 no problems other than the ongoing slow remount issue with NanoBSD. The box has all Realtek 10/100 NICs which can sometimes give trouble. I'm not sure if anyone has reported if this has improved with 8.3 drivers? It's not even close to a PE 860 in performance terms, maybe though you don't need it to be.

Edit: By all I mean the X500, X700, X1000 and X2500.
