      pfSense 2.0.1-RELEASE

I'm having a strange problem with one of my networks. I've got approx 5 pfsense boxes installed at different locations, each having 80 vlans. These boxes have been stable.

A few weeks back, I lost one of my firewalls (it was approx 5 years old and the hard drive failed). I replaced it, and after 4-5 days the device loses internet connectivity.

      Symptoms are:

      • Users can not access the internet

      • I can access the web configurator via the WAN

      • Shortly after, I can't access web configurator via WAN

      • console can be accessed by VGA + Keyboard

      • I reboot device via console by pressing "5" to reboot, device boots and internet is back

I replaced this device, and the same thing happens again.

Any ideas? What logging features will help me?

      Best Regards,

      Mike

Attached are some graphs from RRD. Everything looks fine for the most part, except for the internet outage from 12:30 to 13:00. What do you think?

At a guess, you've either got some questionable hardware (or possibly a power stability problem) or you're using hardware that's triggering a previously unreported bug in FreeBSD. The hardware issue is most likely to do with your network card. What hardware are you using?

I'm using a Zotac ZBOX and a trendnet adapter.

Same setup as worked perfectly before… not sure if its a result from hardware variation or increased network activity that's pushing it over...

              I bet it's that network usb adapter…
Did you check the system logs to see if there is any hardware/device/driver error after the problem starts?
