I get the following error message after installing Squid 3.1.20 and trying to start it:

php: /pkg_mgr_install.php: The command '/usr/local/sbin/squid' returned exit code '1', the output was '/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libmd5.so.1" not found, required by "squid"'

Seems to me that it depends on package libwww-5.4.0_4 (as does squid 2.x)

      Correct me if i'm wrong..

I was able to get squid working by linking the /lib/libmd.so.5 version to /usr/lib/libmd5.so.1.

          A bit of a hack, but it works…  ;D

That should be coming from libwww, and that package is there on the server. Not sure why it wouldn't be getting pulled in, I'll have to run a couple tests.

Is this happening on i386? amd64? both?

I specified libwww as a dependency so it would be forcefully installed rather than coming in automatically, it may work now, give it a try.

Are this squid tbz builds done on 8.3 or 8.1 ?  ???

I had no issues or missing libs compiling it on my 8.1 freebsd.

                          8.1

No idea why that happens sometimes, the binaries are all there but it's as if the package code just isn't including the reference to other package file as expected.

                              Razor,

If you look at "pkg_info" from the shell, do you have libwww installed?

If so you might pkg_delete libwww* and then remove/reinstall squid.

I was getting the same issue, so I removed Squid and Snort, made sure no libwww was listed. Then I installed Squid3, now im getting this error. Any Ideas?

I'll check squid.inc folders and find a way to get it working on both versions (2.1 and 2.0)

                                      @jimp:

                                      Razor,

If you look at "pkg_info" from the shell, do you have libwww installed?

If so you might pkg_delete libwww* and then remove/reinstall squid.

Your funny…I send people like you home every day from my IT Dept to tell there wives that he can't pay the mortgage anymore.

Well if you're running a beta-quality package, then be prepared to troubleshoot.

If someone fired me for something so trite, I wouldn't want to work there anyhow.

If you don't cooperate with people trying to get basic troubleshooting info from you, then you won't find much help here.

Just want to verify - on 2.0.1 did squid3 default to putting the conf file in /usr/local/etc/squid/squid.conf ?
If so, then the explicit specification of the conf file location "-f /usr/local/etc/squid/squid.conf" should be fine.
If not, then that might now be pointing at a place that does not exist on 2.0.1.
(I don't have any 2.0.1 systems left to easily try it)

Getting error when starting squid. I removed squid and also made sure that the libwww was gone as well. So I installed squid3 again and now getting the below issue. Any Ideas?

                                            Error on console:
