Compact flash

We need list of compact flash that work well with pfsense. Ebay is full of cf I see may for around 10. I see number of high speed cf cards and industral grade for around 10 dollars.

Any CF will work with pfSense, but the question is what CF will work with your chosen hardware. Some systems are pickier than others there. Generally I would stick with Kingston or Sandisk, those are two that are very widely used with a wide range of hardware and I've never heard of any compatibility issues. I have a few no name cheap CF cards that all work fine too, though I've also heard others here unable to get certain hardware to boot from or work properly with some off brand cards.

Using Transcend cards here, 133X type. No problems.
It's worth noting that there is almost no point in getting a super fast card. pfSense disables DMA in the NanoBSD images so they all run at PIO speeds.
Also of note is that DMA is not disabled in Nano+VGA images which can cause trouble, is this a bug?Steve

Why not use a CF to SATA bridge ?

You can. Why do you ask?

That's true. ;)
However one of the advantages of CF is that it's interface is IDE compatible so you need only passive components to connect it and it can be addressed as an IDE harddrive without any drivers. That's why a lot of appliances have a CF card slot on board.
If you are booting from USB you may as well just use a USB memory stick which is much cheaper per GB.Steve

For newer devices that don't have IDE support this might just pull a premium instead of SSD's ;)
Also…
I seen somewhere a dual card unit that runs RAID between the 2 cards and there is also a DP SAS version available :)
Was thinking for a while DUAL 64GB or 128GB / CF Adapter in a Raid 5 configuration across 12 DP SAS drivesEdit:
Went looking and...
