      Hey All,

I going to build 3 PFSense based firewalls.  These will be used in a SOHO setting using FIOS at between 50 and 100 Mbps and VPN.  Are there any recommendations for a small unit (ITX, PCEngines, Soekris) that could handle this?  Ideally I would like something with a small footprint and fanless.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

I have read that and searched the forums.  I was looking for specific board recommendations that are fully compatible and that people have good success with.

You've thrown VPN in the mix. What VPN throughput are you looking for?
A system capable of 100Mbps VPN is going to be very different to one that just does firewall/NAT at that speed.

10 to 25 Mbps should be fine for VPN.  It is mostly used for backups to run and occasional remote desktop.

Ok, well you kind of fall between two hardwares.
An Alix based box, such as the Netgate, will firewall/NAT at ~85Mbps and VPN ~15Mbps.
An Atom D510 based box will firewall at ~500Mbps and VPN ~50Mps. Example.
Both of these are well tested with pfSense.

You may be able to get something that falls in between these such as a VIA 1GHz solution but I don't think I've seen any benchmarks.
