Following the Upgrade Guide http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Upgrade_Guide works fine, but after upgrading the primary it takes over the VIP addresses immediately after reboot and therefore all active connections become broken, as the primary had no chance to sync the states from the secondary.

It would be nice to have an option to disable CARP reboot-safe on primary, so that it runs first as backup after reboot to sync the states for a while and then to enable CARP again.

Or is there another solution to upgrading a HA-cluster without losing the active states?

I have upgraded and tested many times without loosing states. They sync on the secondary is probably not setup otherwise it would sync the states from secondary to primary and continue.

          Thanks for this hint.
I missed the check box to enable sync on the secondary… m(
Now it works as expected! Very nice.
