      How much hardware for a lan with 20 or 30 computers, I have a trouble with pentium 3 800Mhz, 256 ram!
      Only using wizard rules, the machine always using 100% of my entire machine, so what machine is recommended ? ???

        if you have any laying around you could try upping the ram to 512, it might help

        what's your throughput? what sort of internet connection do you have
        any ipsec or pptp connections?

          It depend on what bandwidth your internet connection have and what services your running. Also your nic and the pooling option is necessary. is With up to 20 mbit and without services like snort or ntop your pc will be surely enough.

            100% CPU you mean? If you're always at 100% CPU with a box that fast, there's a problem. Those specs are more than adequate for virtually every 20-30 PC network.

                  so I'll try to change this machine, I make a new install in other place with a P4 1.6 512 Ram and works fine, only need to run squid and traffic shaping!!  ;D ;D

                    If your CPU is pegged under those circumstances, I don't think it's going to matter what CPU you use. It's likely a problem with some run away process that's going to use 100% of your CPU regardless of how fast it is.
