Host Overrides in Dns Forwarder for IPv6?

  • Rebel Alliance Global Moderator

More of a feature request, so not sure if correct location.  But since its IPv6 related figured put it here.

So in the host overrides section you can put in your host names and ipv4 addresses, and this works great for local dns and ipv4 of your machine names and PTR.  But what about AAAA and ipv6 PTR? Can we get an IPv6 address block for the hosts?  So if we query AAAA we get the IPv6 address.  And if we PTR an IPv6 address we get back the host name.

Have you not tried it? It works already.

Just add another entry, give it the same hostname, and pop a v6 IP in the box. It should work forward and reverse.

Sweet!!  Ok then the request is simple then ;)  Make mention of such on the page, ie when you give eg for ip, list an IPv6 address as well or mention it vs just the ipv4 example.

Maybe mention of ipv6 support on
    http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/DNS_Forwarder

    etc..

    but yes it does work!

I added a note in the GUI and on that wiki article. Hope it's enough.
