Accessing configuration web/telnet of VDSL modem set in DHCP mode.

Hi beautiful people:

I'm running a pfSense 2.1 beta box coupled with two Huawei HG612 VDSL2 "modems".

I've read the excellent guide on how to access a modem's web configuration pages when is set to PPPoE and it works like a charm with the one set with PPPoE.

However I don't see it clear how to achieve the same thing with the one set to pull an IP from the ISP via DHCP.

As DHCP WAN is assigned to a physical port rather than a virtual adapter, would the instructions provided for 1.2.3 apply on this scenario? Or am I a very confused batrachian?

Of course there are a number of alternative methods to achieve this because these appliances have two ETH interfaces. One can be used for WAN and the other for LAN management (thanks to the work lead by one industrious person that goes by the name of asbokid), but just for the sake of simplicity (and reduction of cables, desktop switches and/or other sorcery-related items) accessing both WAN and web/telnet configuration via the same port/wire is… convenient.

Where I live it seems to be common for DSL modems to talk PPP with their ISP in which case there would be no need for the modem to use DHCP to request an IP address. Is this modem also acting as a router with the corresponding pfSense interface using DHCP to request configuration information from the modem/router?

Nope, "modem" is using MPoA and in "bridge" mode, pfSense is pulling an IP from ISP using DHCP.

Adding a virtual static IP in the modem signet seems like the way to go. As you suggested.
